We are excited to announce that we are launching a brand new Year of Yarn in 2014.
Each month we will review a new yarn and include a free pattern to knit a 14” x 14” block. Knit each block along with us, using the suggested yarn in the colors of your choice. At the end of the year, sew each block together and create a unique, fabulous throw to keep you cozy.
Project ideas: Socks, shawls, hats, sweaters, baby blankets, pretty much anything a crafter can imagine
Technique recommendations: Lace, cables, and basic stitches
Fiber content: 100% Domestic Superwash Merino
Gauge: 6 – 8 stitches per inch using U.S. size 2-4 (3-3.5mm) needles
Care instructions: Machine wash gentle cycle, tumble dry low
• 480 yds/113g (4oz)
• Super Fine (1) Weight – Sock, Fingering, Baby
• 85 multi-color, tonal, or solid color combinations
• The color we used for the block is A Maine Summer Sky, and it has the soft teals and blues of the Caribbean Sea.
We love that this yarn is soft, beautifully dyed, easy care and easy to work with, and comes in a generous put-up. The weight and name make us immediately think of socks, which would be a wonderful and soft treat for your feet. However, don’t rule out the many other uses for this beautiful superwash merino, such as shawls, hats, sweaters, and baby blankets. This fiber will create spectacular stitch definition and amazing drape even at tighter gauges. Lace, cables, and even basic stitches will shine. The best thing we can say about this yarn is we had to fight it away from our crafting friends when they caught sight of it!
