There are so many reasons to love knitting.
It’s such a thrill to see a new pattern take shape. Watching your yarn transform into a garment feels almost magical.
Knitting is creative and fun, and it’s a great source of stress relief.
And when it comes to knitting, there’s always something new to learn! Mastering a new knitting technique can give you that exciting lightbulb “aha!” moment you may have experienced more frequently as a child.
Plus, knitting provides a real sense of accomplishment. You get to wear your finished project or give it away to someone you care about.

I knit to stay awake mostly… especially when watching tv in the evenings. That is quite boring.
At the moment I am working on shawls/ponchos. Out of lace weight yarn.
I like to create, I like colours and the knitting give it to me
I’ve met wonderful people everywhere thru knitting.
I love how relaxed I get when I knit. See a piece of fabric grow from a string is amazing!
Whats not to love. Watching your project grow. The colors, the patterns, all of the new things you can learn. I love the stress relief. Giving that last pair of socks I made away to someone who is so happy to get them. Then there is the feeling you get when you knit for people who truly needs what you are making. The yarns OH the yarns, I love going into a LYS and just feeling all that yarn. Nothing can make me as happy as my knitting does. I have had many surgeries and my knitting fills the time while I recover. I have disabled and can`t work so my knitting fills my day.
I love the feeling when I complete a project! and even better when I give it to someone and can say I made that for you!
The “clicking” of the needles is like a mantra for me. Helps me to become centered again after a hectic day at work. Calms me and helps me to sort out life’s day-to-day issues whatever they may be for that particular day by putting everything in proper perspective. Who knew knitting with pretty string could bring so much joy not only to myself but to the many recipients of my projects. Couldn’t live without my knitting!
I love knitting because it relaxes me and it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I complete a project. Knitting also renews my spirit and my sense of worth!
It’s like active meditation. Instant stress relief and you get a cute sweater out of it!
I love knitting because it reminds me of my grandmother. She would pick me up on a Friday evening after work, take me shopping for yarn, and then we would go back to her house and knit/crochet all weekend. She sat patiently for hours teaching me the stitches until she was confident that I had grasped it. I thank God every day for a wonderfully talented grandmother that passed her talent and love for handmade treasures onto me.
I love to knit, I love to knit when I am happy, sad, when I am angry, tired, when I have some serious thinking to do, pretty much any time or day! Knitting for me is a huge stress relief, and helps me relax, plus I love to make things for gifts for people that I love.
I love knitting for the peace of mind it gives my soul. I love to watch to picture come to life under my hands and admire that I can do such beautiful designs. The repetitive nature of knitting equals life and then suddenly, there is a challenge. I meet the challenge and I am happy once again.
I love knitting for so many reasons, but one that really comes to mind is the connection it has given me to my mother and my grandmother. Both of these lovely ladies made such beautiful items and I am proud to follow in their footsteps. I now have and use many of their needles, notions, and patterns, which makes me feel even more connected to them. Also, I love the fact that I am one of many who are keeping such a wonderful skill alive.
I love to knit for relieving stress. I can get my needles out and disappear into my project. Then there is the entire community of knitters. No matter where you meet you can always get along like old friends. I also value the fact that I am creating something that will used and love. It will be a memory that travels with them.
I love knitting because it’s calming to me. It’s my “stimming” ( if you don’t know what stimming is please see http://www.myspecialsweetpea.com/stimming.html)
I can choose the level of difficulty I want to have in a project. I can have the easy mindless project for when I don’t want to think about it. I can also have a complex project going as well for when I am feeling ready to take on the world!
I am always able to learn new techniques and strive to make them successful.
If I get bored of following others patterns I can create my own.
I also enjoy it because if I buy expensive yarn, I can feel good about it because, I know depending on what I choose to knit with it, it will usually last me longer than other forms of entertainment, ie movies, concerts, etc.
Plus it’s portable. I no longer dread having to sit at the kids soccer practice or carpool line at school, I have something I really enjoy doing while I am waiting.
Happy Knitting!
Knitting saved my mind. I went back to knitting after losing my job because of my visual impairment. Knitting has now become a way for me to help others while at the same time keeping my mind off all my problems. Knitting is now one of my favorite things to do. I just can’t get enough of it.
I love to knit because my Mom shared her passion of knitting with me beginning at age five. Though she passed away almost 25 years ago, every time I pick up my needles to knit I think of her and all she taught me with love. She was an accomplished knitter and I aspire to be as great a knitter one day!
I love to knit because I find it relaxing and like to see the projects come to life while knitting.
oh how I love to knit.I love making knittted gifts and how people love my socks.I love when they say you make these they look so hard. Then when they come back and say oh how nice and warm they are and sweaters people love them also.I just love to knit.It is such a stress relief .only thing I came say isI just love to knit anytime of the day.
I love knitting! I’ve always done crafts of some sort……….and always been the odd duck in the family. No one sewed, quilted, did needlework except me………..and I’m talking Mom, Grandmothers, siblings, aunts & uncles and cousins.
I’ve always had to keep my hands busy…………..and then I found knitting! It was the BIG ONE!!! I’ve never loved a craft has much. I love the feel of the fibers and turning them into something useful and beautiful! There’s a thrill when starting a new pattern and a big rush of excitement when I’ve finished something that took a good bit of time to finish, like a shawl. I always have knitting with me. And I’m always knitting on at least 2 pairs of socks. Now that I’m retired, all my friends have recieved at least 1 pair of hand knit socks.
Now that I’m retired, I’m really broke! LOL! It’s a good thing I have a big stash, huh? I started doing a lot of charity knitting too. It makes me feel like I’m giving back, just a little, and hopefully making the world a better place.
I love knitting because it relaxes me challenges me, and because I can make things for my family and friends.
I love knitting because the focus required calms my thoughts and I’m thinking of nothing but the lovely garment being formed by my needles.
I don’t just love knitting, I am addicted to yarn and knitting needles. I love the feel of yarn as it slips through my fingers, I love the cool, smooth feel of the knitting needles as I hold them in my hands. I cannot sit or wait in doctors/ dentist offices without my knitting project, and of course I have to knit while I watch TV. I have even been known to knit while reading a book. I love to knit.
I knit to relax and zone out from my pain. I love to knit something involving new techniques that I have to really concentrate on as well as plain knitting for tv nights.
I love knitting because it is a unique and wonderful way to express myself. I feel good when I knit something and then give it away. It makes me feel special in a way that nothing else except my kids, grandkids and great grandkids does. I just love knitting.
This past weekend shows what else knitting is. It is a social hobby. A whole bunch of guys met together over 4 days to knit, crochet, spin and play with fiber. We socialized, showed off recient finished projects, and share classes with techniques we knew. By the time it was over, we wished it could be longer. We got to meet old friends and got to meet new friends. Some I plan to keep in touch with, others I will catch up at next year’s retreat
Knitting is defiantly a social hobby.
When I go into a yarn store I am like a drunk in a liquor store!! Yarn smells good, my fingers take on their own personality and reach out to touch and scrunch and hold fibers. My brain cells perk up and say “lets make this” I look at Knitters Review and Ravelry and feel like I belong to a community filled with knowlege of stitches, needles, patterns and comfort. A family that can knit through the best and worst of all worlds. We are knitters.
I love to knit because it is relaxing and an adventure. I love teaching others and giving away things I’ve knit. I love to win ribbons at our county fair. I enjoy admiring other’s work and wondering how I can do better with my knitting. I just love knitting!
I like to create something soft and comforting. Knitting also allows me to focus my mine and forget the troubles that are plaguing me. It is a great way to release stress, create something beautiful, and makes me feel good (and possibly someone else if I’m making it to give away).
There are so many reasons why I love knitting. I feel no anxiety when I knit. Knitting keeps my mind busy and away from those nagging things that cause stress in my life I’m in my own world when I’m clicking away on the needles. But probably the best reasons to knit is to give away the treasures I make, and hopefully to inspire someone else to learn to create in such a lovely way…
What’s not to love about knitting? I love the feel of the yarn in my hands and the sound of the needles clicking. I love the way the patterns look different with different kinds and colors of yarn. And oh, the choices!!! Colors, weights, needle sizes and which pattern to start next. I’m truly a knitaholic!
Its a form of meditation and it is art and engineering all in one.
Love the texture of the many diffrent yarns/fibers we now get to work with.
I love knitting because it is versatile. It can be complicated or simple, challenging or easy, you can use a kit or your imagination!
I knit because it relaxes me. I love the feel of wool weaving though my fingers. I enjoy the rhythmic clicking of the needles as they make stitches. I love to see a pattern emerge below my needles “just one more round/row”. The pleasure I receive when giving away my knitting, and later seeing it in use, is very satisfying. I enjoy when someone asks where I bought my hat or mittens or whatever, and I can reply that I made it myself. I also enjoy when another knitter asks what pattern or book I used to create my latest creation, and I can say it’s my own creation (thank you Elizabeth Zimmermann and Meg Swansen for helping me unleash my creative side!). I can sit, relax, knit, and in the end, I have something wonderful that my own hands created!
What’s not to love! I love the creativity, the variety, the challenge, the sights, the textures…. Gosh, just everything!
I knit to relax and I love the finished project
I love knitting because it keeps me busy I don`t like doing nothing. Plus it is so relaxing,
I’m a new knitter…love clicking of the needles and love to see a new project unfold as it is being knitted…Would love to win this book as I’m always looking for fast and easy projects can be done in one night…with simple stitches….Please pick me…Thanks
I LOVE TO KNIT, BECAUSE THAT HELP ME TO KEEP ALERT AND HELP ME TO RELEASE MY ARTHRITIS PAIN, ALSO MAKE FEEL ACCOMPLISHED WHEN I FINISH AND WEAR IT.
I have only just taught myself to knit – which is ironic as I run a knitting needle related business! ( http://www.facebook.com/knittyknots ) I am hoping to develope my newly found hobby to produce something more complex than a blanket!
I enjoy knitting because its relaxing and I like making things.
Knitting relaxes and refreshes … while giving the opportunity to be creative.
I am a foster mom to high needs girls and knitting is often the only peaceful thing in my life!
I love knitting because it’s relaxing or challenging depending on the project. It can be portable and easy to do alongside other activities. Plus you get a well-fitting, stylish wardrobe at the end!
knitting is such an old craft yet we continue to update it and continue the craft . its a peaceful time for me and a chance to give something of my self ,memories are put in each stitch . its passed on to each new person who will always remember the teacher.
I love to knit because it is relaxing and I enjoy creating gifts for family and friends.
I knit.
Knitting is just part of my day and life. I am usually never not knitting.
I love knitting because I can make things to fit me and look just how I want it. I don’t have to go all around town trying to find the perfect item…I can just make it!
Ditto to what everyone has said! I love yarn and I love playing with it, figuring out what it’s supposed to be, watching it become something – whether it’s a dishcloth or a wedding shawl.
I knit because it is soothing for the soul, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment, and I am always learning something new.
My grandmothers both taught me how to knit and crochet. Now they are both gone. Everytime I do something I think of them. Especially a baby something. It gives me a continuing connection and helps me remember a special time when I was little and would sit and learn and have “show me” times with one of my grandmothers when we came to visit.
I love to knit because it is relaxing time for my mind! And I like to watch the yarn turn into something beautiful that can hold a baby, or comfort one with an illness. It’s just fascinating and that’s all that it is!
I love knitting because the concentration involved helps provide relief from chronic health issues I have. I can zone out/be meditative, and have some relaxation and pain relief.
It is a release of mind from everyday stresses, a jolt of creativity that is unplugged and useful, a confidence booster for the soul in a job accomplished and something new learned, and a way to meet like-minded individuals.
I love to knit for the people I love! I am self taught thanks to wonderful people who post videos of how to knit various stitches.
I love to knit. I have a very stressful (and rewarding) career, so knitting is a stress relief too. I even just taught myself to do entrelac, and also I love it! And of course if my hands are busy knitting, they aren’t busy putting food in my mouth.
I love knitting because it is so satisfying to see a garment take shape.
Everytime I pick up my needles I feel my mother is sitting right there with me. It is such a comforting feeling to know that she is guiding me along the way as I show my daughter or my friends how to read a pattern or share the enjoyment I get from relaxing with a really soft fiber as I knit away on a project. Good feelings all around!
Knitting is so relaxing. You can do it anywhere and good for those on a diet!
Difficult to keep putting food in your mouth if your hands are busy!
I am currently knitting hat number 1148. All of my hats are donated to cancer patients…mostly children. My goal is 10,000 and I knit in memory of my step-father who passed away in November of 2007 from multiple myeloma.
I love knitting because it relaxes me after a long day at work. Knitting is very therapeutic to the mind and soul. Knitting also provides a venue to be creative.
There’s just something about watching my hands turn string into a useable item. It’s soothing and at the same time exciting, and it gives me a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Also I love going places, seeing knitted items and saying to myself, “I could do that.” I have an album of all the things I plan to make…one day. Also, how fun is buying yarn?!?
I love seeing the project becoming a reality row by row. It thrills me that I can actually do this thing called “knitting”.
I love how knitting is calming for me. I quilt professionally and it is nice to have a sit-down fiber activity.
I knit teeny-tiny little hats for babies born way too soon…for calvinshats.com Some of these precious angels make it and some sadly don’t but they all deserve a warm hat that fits the littlest heads. There are no words to express the joy I feel, knowing my effort will be in the hands of a mommy and on the head of a tiny little baby.
I began to knit by teaching myself in 4th grade. I decided to learn as a small way I could connect to my mom (who I lost to breast cancer when I was 4 &she was 38) I would knit off & on for the next several years only to pick it up again as a true hobby after I was married & started having my own children. Also to make heirlooms to pass on to friends & relatives that were having their own children.
Now as I turn 46 this year it has been a life long hobby that I hope to enjoy for many, many years to come. It has been my therapy for many years..it is the best ‘de-stresser’ I know of.
I knit as a way to tune out the world around me. It is like a form of meditation. When I concentrate on a pattern, I have little time to think of anything else. And when I am taking out mistakes, I am yelling at the yarn, taking out my frustrations there, and not at others.
I knit because I love the feel of fibers in my hands and the rhythmic motion is very soothing. I tend to be a bit anxious so it’s very calming too. I love yarn!
I knit to relax. I love to put in a movie, sit down with my yarn, and create something grand!! Usually, I give most of my stuff away but I am now trying to give to my kids!!
i’ve loved knitting for 66 years … have made a jillion pieces. i love it for the serenity achieved while working a piece, the satisfaction of completing a project, the excitement of learning a new stitch or method, the thrill of a compliment for a handworked gift and the never ending variety of yarn and pattern!
I am a self taught knitter of 10 years. I began knitting when my grandchildren began appearing! I wanted to give them something unique from ‘Gma’. I always have 2-3 project going. It is relaxing and I love working with the different fibers, needles and patterns. I love the challenge of something new. My grandkids are now ages 10-21 and they still request new items each season. Also, I’m a golfer and make crazy fun headcovers for all my golf buddies. I so enjoy knitting for friends and family.
Ha- love the photo! And my aunt came to visit about 6 years ago, and she practically riesad my Dad but we never get to see each other. Anyway, she showed me some of her knitting projects and I immediately signed up for classes at a local yarn shop. I’ve been hooked ever since. I still cherish some of those first hole-y scarves full of drop stitches. Good for you!Steph
