How is your Fair Isle hat coming along? Isn’t this a fun pattern? If you haven’t heard yet, you can download this knitting pattern for free! Knit the hat along with us. It’s a great project and would make such a fantastic gift for a loved one.
Color work is one of my all-time favorite knitting techniques. Fair Isle is just so gorgeous, and it’s especially fun to do on a small project like a hat because it knits up so quickly.
Here’s a photo of the hat when I’m about halfway done. It’s exciting to see the color pattern grow row by row! I am loving the Patons Classic Wool DK Superwash. It’s so soft and comes together beautifully in a color design.
This is what the inside looks like from above as you knit. This pattern uses double-pointed needles in the round, just like you would with a typical mitten pattern.
Here’s a photo of the hat turned inside out. The yarn not being worked is carried along the back. The floats of yarn add an extra layer of thickness to the knit fabric, making it cozy and warm!
The decreasing at the top is super simple even with the color pattern. Before you know it, you’ll be done!
This Fair Isle hat is one of those patterns you won’t want to put down. It’s so satisfying to see the color design grow and transform.
We have more fun photos of this knit along to come, so be sure to check back! Our Editor-in-Chief is knitting the hat in a different color scheme.
We’d love to see your Fair Isle hats as well! Send us your photos to info@loveofknitting.com.

May we see a picture of the EinC’s Colorado? Thank you.
My kindle does autocorrect and didn’t notice the mistake until too late. Make that “colorway” instead of Colorado. Good grief …..
