Darn Good Yarn was started by a young entrepreneur named Nicole Snow who dreamed of getting crafty and working with yarn all day. She also hoped to start a yarn company that would lift people out of poverty and help the environment at the same time.
Today she is fulfilling her dreams and her yarn company is taking off. Much of her yarn is made from silk remnants leftover from sari manufacturers. The beautiful reclaimed ribbon yarn is cut and sewn end-to-end by fair trade family operated co-ops in India and Nepal. Along with creating fabulous, new yarns, her business helps support the grassroots economy in a severely impoverished region and keeps unnecessary waste out of landfills.
This past week, Nicole was chosen as the grand prize winner of the nationwide FedEx Small Business Grant Competition! She will receive a $25,000 grant for her business.
